The property sector continues to evolve, and with it, regulations aimed at preventing financial crime. Money laundering refers to the act of illegally concealing the origin of money and the source it came from and converting the funds into a seemingly legitimate source. The latest anti-money laundering (AML) laws introduce stricter compliance measures for estate agencies, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in property transactions. These new laws will come into place on the 14th of May 2025.
Last week, our portfolio manager Martyna delivered an insightful presentation in the office on these new regulations, highlighting key changes and their impact on estate agents. Her discussion covered essential compliance steps, including customer due diligence, record-keeping, and reporting suspicious activity – all crucial for maintaining integrity in the industry.
For official guidance on these regulations, you can refer to the UK Government’s AML supervision for estate agencies here.
Staying informed and proactive in implementing these measures will not only ensure compliance but also reinforce trust with clients and stakeholders.
